Preventing cybercrime in South Africa continues to be an important challenge for all businesses as the crime continues to be a major threat this year.
According to a recent article by IoL, cybercrime is one of 2023’s biggest risks that businesses face in SA with a public review showing “one in three SME respondents suffered a cyberattack, with the most common causes being malware (30%), phishing (26%), ransomware (25%), denial of service (13%) and theft of funds (13%). This is despite more than 60% of SMEs believing that they were not viable targets for cybercriminals.” Knowing what to do in the face of ransomware could also be challenging to most businesses as there are ways that the attacker could trick a business in to paying lots of money to return the data. However it is not guaranteed that the data will all be returned or uncorrupted.
