With the recent Russian invasion of the Ukraine, the US government has now placed the Russian-owned IT security company Kaspersky on a list of organisations that are considered to be a threat to security in the USA. One of the concerns is an increase in cyber attacks resulting from the invasion. The US had previously banned the use of Kaspersky in Federal Information systems back in 2017.
According to an article by MyBroadband, Homeland Security had cited in 2017 the “risk that the Russian government, whether acting on its own or in collaboration with Kaspersky, could capitalize on access provided by Kaspersky products to compromise federal information and information systems.” The Financial Review also published that the multibillion-dollar Australian Tech company, Dicker Data, has also pulled the pin on its distribution contract with Kaspersky as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.
