When it comes to security solutions, many were and still are focused on a single or limited subset of functions targeting different layers of security/defence models, making it increasingly difficult for staff to manage.
However, as noted by Gartner, security solution providers are converging their solutions into a single platform which reduces the time required to identify, understand and respond to events, all while reducing financial overheads for security.
“Security products are converging. Vendors are consolidating security functions into single platforms and introducing pricing and licensing options to make packaged solutions more attractive. While it may introduce new challenges such as reduced negotiating power and potential single points of failure, Gartner sees consolidation as a welcome trend that should reduce complexity, cut costs and improve efficiency, leading to better overall security.” – Gartner
Due to this change in concept, organisations are able to reduce their supply chain risk because converging of solutions also means there’ll be fewer external suppliers required for the same, if not better, feature-rich security solutions.
